Céline Aguer
Chercheur

Biography

Dr. Aguer holds a PhD in Chemical and Biological Sciences for Health from the Université Montpellier 1 (France) and is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa. The aim of his research is to identify myokines that may be involved in the etiology of type 2 diabetes and the positive effects of exercise in treating this disease. The ultimate goal of this research is to better understand how exercise improves type 2 diabetes, so that rehabilitation programs can be set up to treat or prevent the development of this disease. Dr. Aguer is also interested in the effect of persistent organic pollutants on mitochondrial function and insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle, and the possible communication between adipose tissue and muscle that may explain metabolic defects resulting from exposure to pollutants.
