Dr. Hugues Loemba is a clinician-researcher, family doctor, and virologist. He is also an Associate Professor of Medicine affiliated with the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ottawa. He is a member of the medical staff at Montfort Hospital and practices HIV/AIDS medicine at the University of Ottawa Health Services. Dr. Loemba is also responsible for analyzing therapeutic submissions for antivirals, including the marketing of anti-HIV/AIDS molecules to Health Canada. Dr. Loemba holds a Ph.D. in experimental medicine from McGill University. He also holds a doctorate (M.D.) in general medicine, specializing in epidemiology, from the Institute of Medicine in Kyiv, Ukraine, as well as a Master's degree in Virology and Immunology from the Armand Frappier Institute - INRS in Laval, Quebec. He has published numerous research works on resistance to antiretrovirals, the diversity of HIV strains, the genotypic characteristics of HIV-1 subtype C, the clinical features of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS co-infections, and other comorbidities related to HIV infection.
