Biography

Maria is an assistant professor of communication at the University of Ottawa. His research program leverages his expertise in interpersonal and organizational communication, as well as in qualitative research methods and partnership research, to support the delivery of health services and contribute to the training of health professionals. His work focuses on three research areas related to three contemporary challenges in the field of health in Canada: 1) Support the digital transformation of health organizations, 2) improve access to and the quality of services for Indigenous communities, and 3) strengthen citizen engagement around issues of elderly care and support for caregivers. His current research projects focus on telemedicine, patient-caregiver communication in autism, care models to better meet the needs of patients in Nunavut, and the experiences of immigrant family caregivers.
