Biography

Sathya Karunananthan holds a PhD in Epidemiology from McGill University. She is an assistant professor at the University of Ottawa's Interdisciplinary School of Health Sciences. Her health services research focuses on improving access to care for seniors living with complex health problems such as major neurocognitive disorders, frailty, chronic pain and Parkinson's disease. She studies inequities in access to care within underserved communities, particularly minority language communities and racialized groups. She assesses the impact of healthcare technologies, such as electronic consultation (eConsult) and artificial intelligence, on inequities in access to care and health outcomes. She works in interdisciplinary teams and uses advanced quantitative methods to analyze administrative and health survey data, as well as mixed methods and evidence synthesis.
