Dr. Sharon Johnston, MD, LLM, is the Scientific Director of the Institut du Savoir Montfort, Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa, and the recipient of a Tier 2 Clinical Research Chair in Primary Care Learning Health Systems: PREMs, AI, and Data Integration. A family physician and clinician scientist, she focuses on developing digital and AI-enabled tools to enhance patient engagement, deliver multilingual health education, and integrate research directly into clinical care. Her Tier-2 Chair program is designed to transform how primary care uses patient-generated data and digital tools to promote equity, personalized care, and system integration. Anchored in three pillars—AI-generated patient education, digital collection of patient-reported outcomes, and real-world testing in concussion care—it develops and evaluates bilingual, scalable innovations using human-centred design, implementation science, and AI. Dr. Johnston also contributes to major national and international initiatives in concussion and brain–heart interconnectome research, advancing innovative digital assessments, exercise-based interventions, and research with the diverse cohort of patients injured with concussion. She is widely recognized for her leadership in patient-oriented research, her focus on health equity, and her mentorship of early-career clinicians and researchers. More information about her publications and projects can be found on her ResearchGate profile.
